On March 10th, 2018, the African Meeting House on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts was the target of a hate crime in which the N-word was graffitied across the front of the building.

On June 20th, 2019, the Nantucket Police Department turned over the investigation to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s Office.

At the request of the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office, which is investigating the case, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey approved Assistant District Attorney Daniel Higgins to be a special assistant attorney general, which allowed him to access the attorney general’s statewide grand jury.

It has now been over two years since the initial crime, with no updates or charges related to the case.
